The Designer's guide to freelancing

Your first year as a freelance designer can be rough, it doesn't have to be.

Before becoming a freelance designer I worked in editorial design. I did time at several agencies and I even worked as a full-time remote designer. None of them fit me like the glove that is freelancing.

Becoming a freelance designer has helped me to gain financial independence and find more creative freedom. I hope I can help you to find the same freedom and give you more control over your working life.

Freelance worries

Ask any new freelance designer what their biggest worry is, and right after nuclear war they'll tell you it's finding clients, and it’s no small wonder. Taking financial responsibility for your life is a hell of a thing to do. With so much at stake who wouldn't be more than a little nervous.

The list of freelance worries can be a long one. I've lived most of them and continue to battle with a few others.

The Designer’s Guide to Freelancing will help you find your feet before it's too late. The freelance life can be a great one, so get a head start.

Who the hello are you?

Well, my Name's Nathan Powell and I’m a design consultant living in sunny Spain (although I originally hail from the UK). I'm founder of nusii, a SaaS app that helps freelance designers win more client proposals, author of The Designer's Guide to Freelancing. Oh, and I still do consulting.

I'm father to Leonor and partner to Nuria. Owner of two cats, one aquarium, a mortgage and a Triumph Trident.

As it's the done thing, here's a small sample from my bragging board.
