2022 New Hampshire and Rhode Island Election Results

New Hampshire Republicans select their nominee on Tuesday to face Democratic Sen. Maggie Hassan in what could be one of the most competitive Senate races in the nation.

Rhode Island and Delaware also hold their primaries on Tuesday — wrapping up the 2022 primary calendar and setting the final pieces of the playing field for the eight-week sprint to November’s midterm elections.

Here is some takeaways results so far:

Rhode Island chooses candidates in a competitive home race

The field is set for what is expected to be one of New England’s most competitive congressional races this fall, after Rhode Island State Treasurer Seth Magaziner won the Democratic 2nd District primary. of Congress, CNN predicted.

He now faces Republican Allan Fung, the mayor of Cranston, in the district where longtime Rep. Jim Langevin is retiring. Langevin, a Democrat, has won his races without serious competition since 2001, and President Joe Biden won there by 14 percentage points in 2020. But Republicans believe the seat is winnable.

Fung was the Republican candidate for governor in 2014 and 2018, losing twice to former Governor Gina Raimondo, but performing well in the district, which spans the western half of the state.

McKee clings to Rhode Island

One of the nation’s least popular governors, Dan McKee of Rhode Island, faced four main opponents as he sought his first full, elected term.

But McKee, who took over as governor last year when Raimondo quit to join the Biden administration, is no stranger to tough primaries — he nearly lost his bid for renomination as a lieutenant. governor in 2018.

His two closest rivals, former CVS executive Helena Foulkes and Secretary of State Nellie Gorbea, have portrayed themselves as reformers with promises to clean up government. Foulkes, who has vowed not to run for office unless she revitalizes Rhode Island schools, was endorsed by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

The race was a bust for progressive frontrunner Matt Brown, the Bernie Sanders-backed former secretary of state, who trailed the leaders four years after losing a main challenge to Raimondo.
