Leicester don’t want to sell Fofana, says Rodgers

Leicester City are unwilling to sell defender Wesley Fofana and have turned down two offers for the Frenchman, manager Brendan Rodgers said on Thursday.

The 21-year-old has been linked with Chelsea but Rodgers said the Midlands club wanted to keep the promising youngster.

“We don’t want to sell. If there is interest from other clubs, that will of course be checked by the club,” said Rodgers.

“He’s a top young defender and there aren’t too many his age.”

Leicester signed Fofana on a five-year deal from St Etienne in October 2020 and finished fifth in the Premier League when he was named Young Player of the Season.

“Another year here at least would be very important for his development but he is quite calm and relaxed about the situation,” Rodgers added.

“He’s aware of the interest. He understands where we are as a club and where we see him.”

Fofana suffered a fractured fibula in a pre-season friendly against Villarreal in 2021, which kept him on the touchline until March.

Leicester visit Arsenal in their second league game of the season on Saturday.
