Brian Nadler: Eastern Ontario doctor faces 3 new murder charges

An Eastern Ontario doctor who was charged with first-degree murder in a patient’s death is facing three new murder charges, the Ontario Provincial Police have announced.

Brian Nadler, 35, was charged in 2021 in connection with the March 25 death of Albert Poindinger, 89, of Pointe-Claire, Que. Nadler was working at the Hawkesbury and District General Hospital at the time.

Police said they were investigating several suspicious deaths in hospital, but never released the number and said the investigation would be lengthy.

Nadler’s medical license was suspended shortly after his indictment. He was released on bail in July 2021 with several conditions, including a ban on practicing medicine.

His lawyer said during his initial arrest that his client maintains his innocence.

In a news release, the Ontario Provincial Police said Nadler was arrested and charged on Wednesday with three additional counts of first-degree murder.

Police say the charges stem from the death of Claire Brière, 80, of Rigaud, Que.; Lorraine Lalande, 79, of Hawkesbury, Ont.; and Judith Lungulescu, 93, of East Hawkesbury Township, Ontario.

Online obituaries show Lorraine Lalande and Judith Lungulescu died at Hawkesbury General Hospital on March 25, 2021.

Lalande was a mother of four and had “many grandchildren,” according to the obituary posted on the Berthiaume Funeral Home website.

Lungulescu lived in Hudson, Quebec, but moved to Hawkesbury after her husband’s death to be closer to her grandchildren. She is survived by a daughter and two grandchildren.

According to the police, the investigation is still ongoing.
