Celtic beat Dundee United 9-0 to equal Scottish Premier League record

GLASGOW: Celtic humiliated Dundee United 9-0 on Sunday (28 August) to equal their own record Scottish Premiership win, a day after Liverpool beat Bournemouth by the same score in the English Premier League.

The result at Tannadice Park matched Celtic’s 9-0 win over Aberdeen in 2010/11 and was the biggest away win in the history of the competition, beating their own 8-1 triumph at Dunfermline Athletic in 2005/06.

A first-half hat-trick by Japanese striker Kyogo Furuhashi and a three-pointer by Israeli winger Liel Abada accounted for six Celtic goals.

Furuhashi scored his third stoppage-time goal in the early stages and Portuguese winger Jota scored at half-time to make it 4-0.

Abada’s treble, Josip Juranovic and Carl Starfelt completed the defeat.

Ange Postecoglou’s side edged Rangers to the top of the table with 15 points from five games.

Liverpool celebrated their first win of the season against newly promoted Bournemouth on Saturday, tying the record for the biggest win in the Premier League.
