“It’s going to be a family that hasn’t come to terms with the fact that their dad is gone, but has kind of moved on and dealt with a lot of things,” Barnow said. “So we’re starting off with optimism about having a baby coming and looking forward to the future. It’s an opportunity for this interesting emotional basis for how people behave.”
Garlin, who is also known as one of the stars of “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” left “The Goldbergs” last December.
Co-showrunner Chris Bishop also spoke to EW about the series pivot.
“Honestly, this feels like a huge restart for us,” Bishop said. “So we have tons of momentum for this new season.”
