Normann dropped out of the Norway squad after signing with the Russian club

Norway’s Mathias Normann will not be considered for international duty as he recently joined an unknown Russian club, the Football Federation of Norway (NFF) announced on Monday.

Norway coach Stale Solbakken informed Normann on Monday that he would not be invited to the team’s next meeting.

While most foreign players left Russia after the country invaded Ukraine in February, midfielder Normann, 26, returns to Russian football after a season on loan at Norwich.

Normann, who made 12 appearances for Norway, previously played for Russian club FC Rostov.

“All Norwegian and European football are united in jointly pressuring Russia as a belligerent party that has also been very active in using positions of power in the sport,” NFF President Lise Klaveness said in a statement.
