English football legend David Beckham has been spotted in The Queue for lying to the Queen in London.
Speaking to reporters in line, Beckham said he waited more than 12 hours with members of the public.
“We all want to be here together, we all want to experience something where we celebrate the amazing life of our Queen,” Beckham said.
“You know something like this is meant to be shared today. So you know we were here. We eat Pringles. We eat sherbet lemons, sandwiches and coffee,” the football player continued.
Speaking to an ITV News reporter, Beckham said he “grew up in a royalist household” and came on behalf of his grandparents, who he said would have lined up if they were alive.
Beckham shared how lucky he was to have met the Queen on several occasions and highlighted the honor he felt playing for the England national football team.
“You know, I always wanted to represent my country, be a captain in my country, and every time we would stand there, if we were wearing those three lions shirts, and I had my armband and we were singing, you know, ‘God protect our queen.’ It was something that meant so much to us,” he said.
Wearing a black suit, navy coat and flat cap, Beckham said his “knees were fine” despite queuing for more than 12 hours, although the same could not be said for his back.
Beckham has appeared in selfies with fans on social media, and a woman who queued next to Beckham for hours told reporters that she had “great respect” for the athlete, who she said “had shown his respect.” as he wished”.
The Queue meanders for miles along the south bank of the River Thames from Westminster Hall, where the body of the late monarch is laid out. It stretches past attractions such as the London Eye, the Royal Festival Hall and the Globe Theatre.
There are plans for a length of nine miles or 14.5 kilometers.
