Ambassador Bridge on the Canadian side closed Sunday evening

The Ambassador Bridge was partially closed Sunday evening.

Police said they were investigating a suspicious package found in a vehicle on the bridge.

Police first tweeted about the closure around 9 p.m. local time, saying the bridge on the Canadian side would be closed indefinitely.

At the time of publication, some traffic was diverted to the Windsor-Detroit Tunnel.

“[Police] took all the cars and sent them to the tunnel and they parked all the trucks in the compound at [the] duty free. There are about 50 to 75 trucks,” Todd Marciano, a trucker stuck on the U.S. side of the border, told CTV News.

He noted that trucks and cars entering the United States were not delayed, only those entering Canada.

“We’re sort of trading the idea of staying [in Detroit overnight] or drive to Sarnia. My company is wondering how they are going to pick up the trucks because they need them on Monday morning. »
