May the force be with him.

Star Wars star Mark Hamill has been named an ambassador for the UNITED24 fundraising platform, where he will work to support the Army of Drones project to benefit Ukraine.

His introduction as ambassador came during an online call Thursday with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who expressed gratitude for Hamill’s support since the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

“Mark, you have become the first ambassador to help Ukraine raise funds to support its defenders,” Zelenskyy said. “For Ukrainians it means a lot. As in “Star Wars”, good will triumph over evil and light will triumph over darkness. With you on the team, there is no other way.

“In this long and uneven struggle, Ukraine needs continued additional support. That’s why I was honored that President Zelensky asked me to become an ambassador for the drone army,” Hamill said in a statement.

“I know for sure that Ukrainians need drones to protect their land, their freedom and the values of the entire democratic world,” he added. “Right now is the best time for everyone to come together and help Ukraine rise in this war against the evil empire.”

Hamil too tweeted about it Thursday.

“Honored to be Ambassador of the Drone Army and to help President Zelensky and the people of Ukraine in every way possible,” he wrote.

The Army of Drones project is a program of the UNITED24 fundraising platform, the Ukrainian Armed Forces General Staff, the Ministry of Digital Transformation and the Special State Communications Service, which provides for the purchase drones, their rapid repair and replacement, and pilot training.
