The Nobel Prize in Chemistry will be awarded today


The Nobel Prize in Chemistry will be awarded by the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences on Wednesday in Stockholm, the third Nobel Prize awarded in science this week. The awards are among the highest honors in science, recognizing groundbreaking contributions in their field.

The prize was awarded to Benjamin List and David WC MacMillan for their development of a tool that stimulated the search for new drugs and reduced the effect of chemistry on the environment.

  • The Nobel Prize for Literature will be awarded Thursday by the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences in Stockholm. Last year, Abdulrazak Gurnah won for “his uncompromising and compassionate insight into the effects of colonialism and the plight of refugees across the chasm between cultures and continents”.

  • The Nobel Peace Prize will be awarded on Friday by the Norwegian Nobel Institute in Oslo. Last year Maria Ressa and Dmitry A. Muratov, both journalists, won for their press freedom efforts.

  • Next week, the Nobel Prize in Economics will be awarded on Monday by the Swedish Academy in Stockholm. Last year, the prize was awarded to David Card, Joshua D. Angrist and Guido W. Imbens.

All award announcements will also be broadcast live by the Nobel Prize institution. Winners will receive their awards at a ceremony in Stockholm in December.
