Motorsport Formula E Champion Vandoorne joins the DS Penske team

(Reuters) – Formula E champion Stoffel Vandoorne will drive for the DS Penske team next season after Mercedes exited the all-electric series, they announced on Wednesday.

The 30-year-old Belgian will team up with France’s two-time Formula E Champion Jean-Eric Vergne (32) for the start of the ninth season, also known as the Gen3 era.

“We’re starting this partnership in the best possible way by having two champions on the team,” DS Performance Director Thomas Chevaucher said in a statement.

The Stellantis-owned brand is partnering with Penske Autosport for the next four seasons, having previously partnered with Chinese company Techeetah.

From 2016 to 2018, Vandoorne drove in Formula 1 with McLaren, who took over the Mercedes Formula E team.

Penske Autosport is owned by Jay Penske, son of IndyCar CEO Roger Penske.
