Iran: Canada imposes sanctions against a television channel and entities accused of torture

OTTAWA-

Canada is imposing more restrictions on Iranian officials with a focus on entities that Ottawa associates with propaganda and torture.

The new sanctions target six individuals and four entities, including the Fars news agency, which is believed to be affiliated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.

Also sanctioned is Iran’s Guardian Council, which blocks election candidates who do not align with the regime’s ideology.

Among the entities banned from doing business with Canada are the Assembly of Experts and the Board of Discernment of Opportunity, both of which abide by the rules of the regime.

Canada is also listing Iran’s deputy interior minister and a Revolutionary Guards commander in response to violent crackdowns on protesters.

To date, Canada has imposed sanctions on 89 Iranians and 177 Iranian entities.
