Soccer star Zidane melts hearts with new Parisian wax statue

PARIS: Zinedine Zidane, one of the world’s greatest footballers of all time, was unveiled a new wax statue in his honor on Monday at the Musee Grevin in Paris – the French capital’s equivalent of Madame Tussauds in London.

Zidane, dressed in a smart suit and accompanied by his wife, smiled as he stood next to his waxwork double.

Zidane, now 50, led France to their first World Cup in 1998, scoring twice in the final against Brazil and then winning the 2000 European Championship with France.

He also inspired an aging French team to the final of the 2006 World Cup, but left the game in disgrace after being sent off for bumping an Italian opponent. France lost to Italy in the end.

Zidane also won the Champions League with Real Madrid in 2002 and then returned to the Spanish club as coach, which led Real Madrid to three Champions League titles. Zidane left Real Madrid at the end of the 2020-2021 season.
