Late Marx attempt earns Boks bonus point gain in Buenos Aires


BUENOS AIRES : South African hooker Malcolm Marx scored a last-minute try at the Estadio Libertadores de America in Buenos Aires on Saturday to secure a 36-20 bonus points victory over Argentina and the Springboks in the hunt for the rugby championship title to keep.

The Springboks climb to 14 points in the competition standings, level with New Zealand. They host Argentina in their last clash next weekend in Durban while the All Blacks are at home in Australia.

The visitors’ goals came from a penalty attempt, scrumhalf Jaden Hendrikse, two for Marx and center Damian de Allende as they dominated the first half with their power play and led 22-6 at the break before suffering a scare in the second period got .

Argentina roared back in the last 15 minutes, increasing to 22-20 before the Boks pulled away again. The home side were also awarded a penalty try to go with a goal for center Matias Moroni.
