France’s skipper Lloris has to miss Nations League games due to injury

France captain Hugo Lloris will miss forthcoming UEFA Nations League games against Austria and Denmark with a right thigh injury, the French FA (FFF) announced on Monday (19 September), leaving the world champions with a long list of absentees.

AC Milan defender Theo Hernandez was also absent with a right adductor problem, while Nantes goalkeeper Alban Lafont and Aston Villa defender Lucas Digne replaced the duo in the squad.

France meet Austria on Thursday and travel to Copenhagen on Sunday to play Denmark.

Coach Didier Deschamps is already without Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema, the striker who has been diagnosed with two thigh injuries sustained during his side’s Champions League game at Celtic this month.

Olympique de Marseille midfielder Jordan Veretout has also been called up to replace the injured Boubacar Kamara, who was acting as a substitute for fellow midfielder Adrien Rabiot.

The defending champions are bottom of the table in Group 1 of League A with two points from four games and are threatened with relegation to the second division.
