Honduras defender Quaye issues an 18-month doping ban

Honduran defender Wisdom Quaye has been suspended for 18 months for violating anti-doping rules, world football’s governing body FIFA said on Tuesday.

The 24-year-old right-back tested positive for clostebol – which is banned by the World Anti-Doping Agency – after a World Cup qualifier on February 2.

“The sanction came after the player’s admission of the violation and the subsequent conclusion of a case resolution agreement between the player, FIFA and WADA,” FIFA said in a statement.

“The sanction is therefore final and binding.”

FIFA said the player was suspended until August 1, 2023 as Quaye’s provisional suspension was counted towards his 18-month ban.
