How Republicans could take control of the House

The political winds that once favored Republicans in the upcoming midterm elections appear to have shifted in favor of Democrats, but in the House quest, geography may be fate. Many congressional district lines have been redrawn this year to favor one party or the other to such an extent that even a hurricane-force gale cannot overcome the new embedded biases.

In the few seats where Democrats can go on the offensive, they are focusing on abortion as a voting issue. Republicans continue to focus on the economy while campaigning on crime concerns in suburban and exurban districts around Seattle, Portland, Cincinnati and Cleveland. They are also trying to use a wave of migration to expand their territory into the border districts of Texas and New Mexico.
