Man Utd crisis won’t affect Liverpool, says Fabinho

Liverpool midfielder Fabinho said crisis-hit Manchester United should not expect favors from their opponents when the two sides meet in a Premier League clash later on Monday (22 August).

United came under fire from the fans after losing their opening two games to sit 19th in the league table and failing to meet any transfer targets in the final season either.

Liverpool also had a poor start to the season with two draws and Fabinho said the club will focus solely on getting the job done and taking three points.

“I don’t care if a win puts them in a little more trouble, I just want to beat them and win three points,” the Brazilian told reporters ahead of Liverpool’s trip to Old Trafford to face United.

“It’s always a big game and there’s a lot of media talk about this game throughout the week. It’s never easy to play there and we know the fans will be happy to beat our rivals if we win.”

“We also need three points. It will be our first three points in the competition, so there are many things that motivate us.”

Liverpool sit 15th in the league with two points from as many games, five behind rivals Manchester City, but Fabinho said the Merseyside club have yet to hit the panic button.

“It’s obviously not the start we wanted – two games, two draws – but it’s just the beginning of the season,” said Fabinho.

“We’re really calm about that. We know we can win the games to make sure the gap with the other clubs doesn’t get too big, not just City. We’re calm because we know the quality of the team and who they are there is.” 36 games left.”
