PM Trudeau to announce details of affordability measures

SAINT ANDREWS, NB –

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will unveil full details of a plan today to ease some of the inflation for those Canadians who are feeling it the most.

Liberal and New Democrat sources told The Canadian Press that the plan includes doubling GST rebate checks for six months as well as a temporary dental benefit for some families with young children and an increase in the payment of housing allowance.

These are three initiatives that the NDP has been calling for since the spring, when inflation began to weigh heavily on low- and modest-income Canadians.

The dental and housing allowance also responds to NDP demands made under the Liberal-NDP Supply and Confidence Agreement reached last March.

The announcement was due to take place last week during a cabinet retreat in Vancouver, but was delayed following the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

Instead, Trudeau is set to release full details today amid the Liberal caucus retreat in St. Andrews, NB
