Pogacar overtakes elite team to win Montreal Grand Prix


MONTREAL

UAE Team Emirates’ Tadej Pogacar prevailed in a sprint finish of six elite cyclists on Sunday to win the 221.4-kilometer Montreal Grand Prix.

The 23-year-old cyclist finished 24th at the 201.6-kilometer Grand Prix de Quebec two days earlier.

Pogacar won Sunday’s race in five hours, 59 minutes and 38 seconds. He finished just ahead of Jumbo-Visma’s Woot Van Aert, Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl Team’s Andrea Bagioli, INEOS Grenadiers’ Adam Yates and Groupama’s David Gaudu.

Guillaume Boivin of Montreal was 37th, 2:02 behind the winner.

76 competitors completed the challenging course while 69 recorded DNFs.
