Political support for truckers’ protest seen as negative: Nanos


Most Canadians say they would have a negative view of a politician who openly supported the truckers’ protest that took place in Ottawa earlier this year, according to a new poll from Nanos Research.

The survey, which was conducted by Nanos and commissioned by CTV News, found that about 70% of participants would have a more or somewhat more negative impression of a politician in such a case, with Quebec residents more likely. to have a more negative opinion. (70%) than those in the Prairies (58%).

According to Nanos, around 13% of respondents said they would see a politician who openly supported the protest more positively, 8% said they would view it somewhat more favorably, 8% said it would not. would have no impact, and 2% percent were unsure.

Nanos found that women were more likely to say they would view a politician more negatively at around 66%, compared to men at 61%.

The survey found that there is also a generational divide when it comes to public feelings towards the protest and the politicians supporting it.

Just over 58% of Canadians aged 18-34 said they would have a more negative impression, as did 59.5% of Canadians aged 35-54 compared to 71% of those aged 55 and more.

METHODOLOGY


Nanos conducted a dual-frame (landline and cellphone) random hybrid telephone and online survey of 1,073 Canadians aged 18 or older, between August 27 and August 29, 2022, as part of an omnibus survey. Participants were randomly recruited by telephone using live agents and completed an online survey. The sample included landlines and cellphones across Canada. The results have been statistically verified and weighted by age and sex using the latest census data and the sample is geographically stratified to be representative of Canada. People called randomly using random dialing with up to five callbacks.


The margin of error for this poll is three percentage points, 19 times out of 20. This study was commissioned by CTV News and the research was conducted by Nanos Research.
