Dusseldorf, Germany –
Prince Harry and his wife Meghan arrived in the western German city of Dusseldorf on Tuesday, where they were promoting the Invictus Games, a competition for wounded, injured and ill soldiers and veterans.
The couple, also known as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, were greeted by the Mayor and hundreds of cheering fans who had descended on the Old Town, where Harry and Meghan entered City Hall for a reception.
The Invictus Games are expected to be held in Düsseldorf’s Merkus Spiel Arena in a year’s time.
Harry founded the Invictus Games to support the rehabilitation of military members and veterans by challenging them to compete in sporting events similar to the Paralympics.
At City Hall, Harry expressed his respect for the participants in the games.
“Let us learn from their stories and experiences. Let’s all draw strength in our daily lives and believe in the power of sport to achieve what sometimes feels impossible,” he said. “We have so much to learn and grow from their example as they have braved all odds to carry the torch of service, determination and perseverance.”
Later on Tuesday, the pair were scheduled to take a boat trip down the Rhine with veterans.
