Wimbledon: Canada’s Gabriela Dabrowski advances to second round


WIMBLEDON, United Kingdom –

Canada’s Gabriela Dabrowski and her Australian partner John Peers advance to the second round of the mixed doubles competition at Wimbledon.

The fourth-placed duo defeated Demi Schuurs of the Netherlands and Ariel Behar of Uruguay 6-3, 6-4 on Saturday, moving on in 62 minutes.

Next up for Dabrowski and Peers is unseeded Brazilian tandem Beatriz Haddad Maia and Bruno Soares in Sunday’s second round.

Dabrowski is the last Canadian to stand at Wimbledon after Bianca Andreescu, Denis Shapovalov and Felix Auger-Aliassime were all eliminated in singles.

The Ottawa native is also active in women’s doubles with her partner Giuliana Olmos from Mexico.

Their third round match is also scheduled for Sunday.
