€10,000 fine suspended for top three-handed Austrian GP

Austrian Grand Prix podium finishers Charles Leclerc, Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton were fined €10,000 ($10,000) on Sunday for violating post-race procedures.

According to a report by the race director, the race commissioners called representatives from Ferrari, Red Bull and Mercedes after the podium celebration.

They said video evidence confirmed that the drivers’ physiotherapists and/or driver’s assistants entered the parce ferme, the closed pit lane area, without permission and in violation of a set procedure.

The ban on entering the area is to ensure that no items are handed to drivers before they are weighed.

Stewards said the fine was suspended for the remainder of the season and warned drivers those affected could have their passports revoked if there was a “systemic infraction”.

Ferrari’s Leclerc won the race at the Red Bull Ring, championship leader Verstappen was second for Red Bull and Hamilton, the sport’s most successful driver of all time, third for Mercedes.
