Hassan opts for 5,000-10,000 meters doubles

AMSTERDAM: Dutch Olympic champion Sifan Hassan will look to repeat her gold medal success in the 5,000 meters and 10,000 meters from last year’s Tokyo Games when she runs at the IAAF World Championships in Eugene, Oregon, which begins on Friday.

Hassan also won bronze in the 1,500m in Tokyo, but is only running two events this time after being absent from training for several months, and wasn’t sure which distance to combine with her favorite choice of 5,000m.

But her management company said the 29-year-old has opted to walk the 10,000m, which will be run on Saturday.

She will then attempt the doubles, starting with the 5,000m next Wednesday. The final will take place on Saturday 23 July.
