Raid on Trump’s home: US Department of Justice asks to unseal search warrant

WASHINGTON-

The U.S. Justice Department has asked a court to unseal the search warrant received by the FBI before raiding former President Donald Trump’s Florida estate, Attorney General Merrick Garland said Thursday.

Garland cited “substantial public interest in this matter” in announcing the request at a hastily scheduled Justice Department press conference.

Garland also said he personally approved the search warrant, which was part of an ongoing Justice Department investigation into the discovery of classified White House documents recovered from Trump’s home in Mar-a- Lago in Palm Beach, Florida earlier this year.

It was not immediately clear if and when the unsealing request, filed in Miami federal court, could be granted or when the documents could be made public.
