NATO’s Stoltenberg to Visit Canadian Arctic Defense Site

OTTAWA-

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg will visit Canada next week.

The ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine, climate change and Arctic defenses will be the main focus areas of meetings between Stoltenberg and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

The Prime Minister’s Office said the couple would stop at one of the North Warning System sites, part of Canada’s Norad defences, in Cambridge Bay, Nunavut, on Thursday.

The following day, they will visit a Royal Canadian Air Force base in Cold Lake, Alberta, and the trip will conclude with a bilateral meeting.

Stoltenberg last visited Canada in July 2019, and his last meeting with Trudeau was in Spain in June this year.

During this trip, Trudeau and Defense Minister Anita Anand announced their intention to expand the Canadian-led battle group in Latvia to a combat-capable brigade.
