The Hollywood actress and model shared a vulnerable mom moment with her Instagram followers on Thursday after her 19-year-old daughter, Rowan, left for her second year at Wake Forest University.
“So I said goodbye to my daughter again and thought it would be easier the second time around. She’s already gone and been with me all summer, but…I don’t. ride with her, she drives with her dad,” Shields, 57, tearfully told 1.5 million followers.
“But she’s taking my car, which was my car as her graduation car, so she’s going to drive this.”
Shields, who is also mum to 16-year-old Grier with husband Chris Henchy, explained that she chose to stay behind this time around because it was “too painful” and she couldn’t “to move away from campus again”.
“So if there’s anyone else going through this, we’re all in it together,” Shields told her fellow parents.
Shields ended the video on a philosophical note, saying that while she struggled to watch her daughter fly around the henhouse, the point of parenthood was to “raise them to leave you.”
Shields was quickly inundated with messages of support from other parents who understood her plight.
