Italian champions AC Milan drew 1-1 in Serie A at Atalanta on Sunday (21 August) when Ismael Bennacer canceled out an early goal by the hosts in Bergamo.
After an even start to the game, Atalanta midfielder Ruslan Malinovskyi broke free in the 29th minute with a powerful left-footed shot from the edge of the box.
Milan midfielder Bennacer equalized in the 68th minute after a corner from Alexis Saelemaekers shot through Atalanta’s defenders and into the post.
Milan dominated possession and had more shots on goal but didn’t convert them.
“I think we could have done better, we could have tried to win this game. It was difficult to find space, Atalanta were compact,” Bennacer told DAZN.
Atalanta was happy with their performance.
“We played against the Italian champions and we have to be satisfied. We’re starting again here and have proven that we can play against the strongest at this level again this year,” Atalanta midfielder Mario Pasalic told DAZN.
Milan host Bologna on Saturday and Atalanta travel to Verona on Sunday.
