Nick Kyrgios: Fan Takes Legal Action Against Player After Allegations She’s ‘Insanely Drunk’

In a statement her lawyers sent to CNN on Tuesday, Anna Palus accused Kyrgios of making the allegation, which she called “reckless and utterly baseless” and which caused “significant harm and distress” to her and her family.

“I am not argumentative, but after much deliberation, I have concluded that I have no choice but to direct my attorneys, Brett Wilson LLP, to commence libel proceedings against Mr. Kyrgios in order to clear my name,” the statement said .

“The need to obtain justification and prevent the allegation from repeating itself are the only grounds for taking legal action. Any compensation will be donated to charity.”

She added: “I hope Mr Kyrgios will reflect on the damage he has caused me and my family and offer a prompt solution to this matter.

“However, if he is unwilling to do so, I am anxious to seek justification in the High Court.”

Kyrgios, who was eventually beaten by Novak Djokovic in that day’s match, was upset during the competition after saying there was noise from the crowd

He expressed his anger to the chair umpire at the time and demanded that the fan be thrown out of the stadium for talking to him continuously during a game.

“She’s drunk to death, so kick her out,” he said.

When asked by the referee which supporter that was, Kyrgios pointed to the stands and said: “The one who looks like they’ve had about 700 drinks.”

Palus says she was temporarily removed from the arena as a result.

“During the course of the final, Nick Kyrgios made a reckless and totally baseless allegation against me,” Palus said in her statement.

“Not only did this cause significant damage on the day, resulting in my being temporarily removed from the arena, but Mr Kyrgios’ false accusation was sent to and read by millions of people around the world, which me and caused great harm and suffering to my family. “

CNN Sport have reached out to Kyrgios’ legal team for comment but have yet to receive a response.

The 27-year-old will play at the US Open this year, which takes place between August 29 and September 11.
