Dawn Walker will be returned to officials in Canada

A Saskatoon woman who was arrested in Oregon for allegedly using fake IDs to cross the border with her seven-year-old son is to be deported back to Canada.

Judge Stacie F. Beckerman of the U.S. District Court in Oregon on Wednesday ordered Dawn Marie Walker, 48, be surrendered to Canadian authorities.

Both the prosecution and defense consented to Walker’s return to Canada after she waived a formal extradition process, which would likely be lengthy.

Scott Kerin, Assistant United States Attorney for the District of Oregon, told the court that Walker’s return to Canada was in the interests of both countries.

Walker is due to be handed over to special agents from the US Department of Homeland Security on Wednesday.

Officers are to drive her to the Canadian border where she is to be turned over to authorities and face charges by the Saskatoon Police Department, including public mischief and child abduction in violation of a custody order.

Walker and her seven-year-old son were located by US authorities in Oregon City, Oregon on August 5.

According to documents filed in U.S. District Court, Walker stole a close friend’s identity to open a bank account as part of a ‘kidnapping scheme’ to abduct her son and smuggle her into the states. -United. She is currently being held in an Oregon detention center.

In a memo earlier this month asking Walker to remain in custody pending trial, U.S. Attorney Natalie Wight said she believed Walker posed a “flight risk.”

“As part of an elaborate and well-thought-out plan, the defendant, a Canadian citizen, kidnapped her child and, after faking her and her son’s death, fled to the United States,” said Weight.

“The defendant has every interest in trying to flee to avoid the consequences of her crime. She should be detained.”

Walker claimed she had been the victim of domestic violence.

Walker and his son were reported missing on July 24. His truck and personal effects were found the following morning at Chief Whitecap Park in Saskatoon.
