Canada took first place in one of the individual categories, with the study finding that Canada had the lowest rate of reported domestic violence.

“In Canada, only 1.9% of women say they have experienced violence from a partner in their lifetime, which is 20 times less than in the worst country on the list,” the study states. .

Canada is also tied with more than 10 other countries for having the best domestic violence laws that provide “protection to women from domestic violence, without discrimination against women’s rights.”

Japan, ranked 11th on the list, and Norway had the lowest female homicide rates and Norway had the highest score for feeling safe walking around at night, while Ireland had the highest rate lowest level of acceptance of violence against women, with only 1% of women saying they think a man is sometimes right to beat his partner.

Most categories used data collected by the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), an organization that collects socioeconomic data in its member countries for research and policy analysis. Nearly 40 countries belong to the OECD, including Canada.
