Cannes ‘Triangle of Sadness’ star Charlbi Dean dies aged 32



The representative confirmed reports that Dean died of an unexpected and sudden illness on Monday, but did not provide further details.

Dean, sometimes credited as Charlbi Dean Kriek, is originally from South Africa and got her start as a model.

His first film was the 2010 comedy “Spud,” starring Troye Sivan and John Cleese.

She then had other film roles, as well as a recurring role on The CW’s “Black Lightning” as the character Syonide.

Dean’s role in “Triangle of Sadness” was his biggest yet, especially after the film’s positive reception at Cannes. In the film, Dean played Yaya, one half of a celebrity couple who goes on a luxury cruise that goes awry.

Following the film’s festival win, Dean wrote on Instagram, “Congratulations to our family, we made it!!!” and telling director Ruben Östlund, “you are the GOAT, I’m eternally grateful to you for trusting me to be part of your genius.”

Dean was engaged to male model Luke Volker, according to posts on their Instagram accounts.
