Russian teenager banned from tennis for nine months after anti-doping violation

ITIA said the player, who will not be named because of his age, tested positive for meldonium – a metabolic modulator – at a tournament in January.

The statement said the player admitted to violating the rules of the Tennis Anti-Doping Program (TADP).

“Due to the player’s age, level and lack of access to anti-doping education, the sanction has been established nine months retroactive to the date of the player’s provisional suspension (March 5, 2022),” the statement said.

“This means that until December 4, 2022, the player will not be eligible to attend or participate in tennis events sanctioned, organized or sanctioned by the sport’s governing bodies.”

The player would be offered one-on-one training sessions, the statement said.

Russian athletes will not be able to compete under their country’s name, flag and national anthem in major international sporting events until December 16, 2022, after the country was banned for anti-doping compliance.
Originally banned for four years by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), the sentence was halved on appeal in 2020 by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

Russia is banned from participating in this year’s FIFA Men’s World Cup, which takes place in Qatar from November 20 to December 18.
