Yuki Tsunoda will retain his F1 seat at AlphaTauri next year

FAENZA, Italy –

The Formula 1 team AlphaTauri has signed the Japanese driver Yuki Tsunoda for next year.

Tsunoda is in his second year in Formula 1 with AlphaTauri and this season achieved a best result of seventh place at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix in April.

He is 16th in the 20 Riders Championship with 11 points. His best overall result for the team was fourth place at the Abu Dhabi GP last December.

“Having moved to Italy last year to be closer to the factory, I really feel part of the team and I’m happy to continue racing with them in 2023,” Tsunoda said Thursday. “Our season isn’t over yet and we’re still pushing hard…so I’m totally focused on ending it on a high.”

22-year-old Tsunoda’s team-mate Pierre Gasly has been repeatedly linked with a move to Alpine to replace Fernando Alonso, who is moving to Aston Martin following Sebastian Vettel’s retirement from Formula One next season.
