Liverpool’s injured Diaz is out until the end of December

Liverpool striker Luis Diaz is expected to be out until the end of December after picking up a knee injury in the first half of Sunday’s 3-2 Premier League defeat by leaders Arsenal, British media reported on Monday.

The 25-year-old Colombia international does not require surgery but is likely to miss 10 games in Liverpool’s busy schedule ahead of the World Cup, which begins on November 20.

The Reds are hoping Diaz will return in their first game after the World Cup, which Colombia failed to qualify for, when they visit Aston Villa on December 26.

Liverpool’s England defender Trent Alexander-Arnold also suffered an ankle injury in Sunday’s game and manager Jurgen Klopp said after the game both injuries were not looking good.

“Lucho (Diaz) we had to change before (halftime). (It’s) something with the knee, not good,” he said.

Diaz has made 12 appearances in all competitions so far this season, scoring four goals with three assists.

Liverpool have been struggling this season and are 10th in the table with 10 points from eight games. They travel to Rangers in Group A of the Champions League on Wednesday.
