Forest stuns Liverpool to move from below

NOTTINGHAM: Nottingham Forest stunned Liverpool when Taiwo Awoniyi sealed a 1-0 win with a second-half goal to lift the Midlands club off the foot of the Premier League table on Saturday (22 October).

An underperforming Liverpool looking for a third straight league win could hardly complain as Forest put in a superb performance to claim their second win of the season.

Jurgen Klopp’s side were off the pace in the first half when a disciplined Forest side threw them out of their rhythm.

Forest took the lead in the 55th minute when Awoniyi scored a rebound after his first try hit just the post.

The hosts were dangerous on the break and had several chances to gain some breathing room.

But they were indebted to keeper Dean Henderson, who made a series of saves, the best in stoppage time, when he somehow parried a sensational Virgil van Dijk header from close range after a corner.

Forest held their own and moved up to 19th place with nine points from 12 games, one ahead of Leicester City.
