McDonald’s and Pokémon have introduced a new objective for those who think they have to catch them all. The two brands have teamed up to present a Happy Meal with all-new TCG: Match Battle in-game items.
The new Happy Meal Match Battle boxes, available in the US, UK and Canada through mid-September 2022, will give Pokémon fans “another way to experience the Pokémon Trading Card Game with Match Battle,” according to a Pokémon product announcement. .
Each box will contain all the essentials to engage in a Match Battle with your friends and family. This includes a four-card booster – with a foil card in each deck – an instruction sheet, coin, spinner and card box.
“You can find Pokémon friends like Pikachu, Rowlet, Gossifleur and more, and send them into a match of coin tossing, spinning and numbers fun,” the entertainment brand explained. “The last Trainer with a Pokémon in play wins.”
The new Pokémon/McDonald’s Happy Meal collaboration follows the runaway success of the brands’ 2021 Happy Meals, which sparked a run for collectors and scalpers when they were released to celebrate Pokémon’s 25th anniversary, leading to a shortage. This time around, McDonald’s had to limit the number of Happy Meals it sold to each customer in order to reserve availability for the children and families the special-edition meals were originally intended for.
Like the previous version, the new Pokémon Happy Meals come in an adorable yellow Pikachu box, complete with pointy cardboard ears. Will they also be incredibly popular? Time will tell, of course, but early signs point to great excitement from fans.
In response to a Twitter post announcing that the cute Happy Meal Pikachu boxes were “back” – captioned, simply, “pika pika!” – the commentators expressed great enthusiasm.
“WHEN IS THIS COMING OMGGGG,” one wrote.
“OMG needs this,” added another.
“LETS GOOOOOOO,” clapped a third.
In other words, Pokemon fans reacting to the news of these Happy Meals seem really, really happy.
